The first Scholar was Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم صث we take what he said, did or approved of which is found in his authentic ahaadeeth (Saheeh Bukhaaree, Saheeh Muslim etc)
Then the next scholars after that were the Prophet's صلى الله عليه وسلم Companions - The Sahaabah رضي .الله عنهم
Then the Taabi'een (those that came after the Sahabah) and so on.
There have been scholars throughout the ages who have held onto this pure religion and passed down the knowledge to us, constantly teaching the correct path and warning against the deviant paths.
A few examples of those scholars who have now passed away are:
Shaykhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah,
his student Imaam Ibnul Qayyim,
Imaam Muhammad bin 'Abdul Wahhaab,
Shaykh AbdurRahmaan as Sa'dee,
Shaykh bin Baz,
Shaykh Muhammad bin 'Uthaymeen,
Shaykh al Albaani,
Shaykh Muqbil
